1. Company Profile The company we chose for the Emerging Markets course is FamilyMart. FamilyMart is a 24/7 convenience store, which means it is also open on holidays. FamilyMart offers many varieties of food, beverages, hygiene items, magazines, office supplies and basic medicines. FamilyMart stores vary in size depending on whether they have large stores or small stores. Smaller stores are geared more toward people who want to buy something small (like a bottle of water), and their larger stores are geared toward getting groceries. Next to FamilyMart, you will find convenience stores with a similar concept named 7-Eleven and Lawson, which are their competitors. Their slogan is: “FamilyMart, where you are part of the family”, as they want their customers to feel and be treated like family. The company was established on September 1, 1981, and as of February 2013, it had an estimated 22,181 stores worldwide (including franchised stores). FamilyMart has mainly focused in Asia, however in 2005 FamilyMart decided to expand their stores in the United States, as they opened their first store in Los Angeles under the name Famima!! Shortly after, they opened 9 stores in the United States. In 2010, they were planning to expand with 10 stores, but due to the bad economic situation in the United States, they decided to "freeze" it.2. Family Mart VRIO FrameVALUABLE? RARE?
