Review of a production of Little VoiceIntroductionLittle Voice is set in a town in northern Britain. It was first performed in 1992. The play is based on a girl called LV, LV means little voice because she never speaks and when she does she has a very soft voice, almost a whisper, she cries her deceased father. , she never speaks and her way of grieving is to sing and listen to the records her father left her. Her mother, Mary, mourns her lost youth, this is reflected in the way she acts and dresses. Mary and LV's relationship stems from the fact that when LV's father was alive, Mary felt excluded from their "quiet" activities such as listening to records. LV is very quiet, she never makes any noise other than playing her records, Mary fills the space with noise and action, LV just seems to exist. The play follows how LVi is noticed by a man called Ray who is in a relationship with Mary. He hears her singing and gets a contract for her to perform at the local club. Ray is consumed with making LV a star. When LV takes the stage, she plays her favorite stars and transforms into someone completely different. The relationship between Ray and Mary ends and their house catches fire, it is this fire which makes Mary understand that she has nothing left, her life is exposed and we learn why LV has remained so silent for so long. a long time. the theme of the play is grief, other themes in the play flow from this main theme. For example, alcoholism is a major element of the play; it's Mary's way of escaping the harshness of reality. LV and Mary's lives are based around the ... middle of paper ... also very significant that we finally heard what LV really felt; she emptied her mind of everything. She said she never spoke because she “couldn’t get a word in.” We then realize that throughout the play Mary filled the space with noise and movement, there was no room for LV. Conclusion I thought the piece was excellent and it communicated the story of Littlevoice very effectively. I felt like I could relate to the down-to-earth approach and depth of the characters. I thought the way LV was sung in each scene meant the scenes were broken up and therefore made more effective. The story didn't drag on at all and therefore ended while I was still enjoying it. All the techniques and effects used allowed the piece "Little Voice" to be performed really effectively and I really enjoyed it..
