Let Him Have ItThe film 'Let Him Have It' is based on a true story: however the director gives us facts from his own point of view. Focusing on the first three scenes, show how the director persuades us to feel sympathy for Derek Bentley and how he attempts to influence opinions regarding capital punishment. “Let Him Have it” is set in 1952 and is based on the true story of the case. against Derek Bentley, who was hanged for the murder of an officer named Sidney Miles. Although Bentley did not directly play a role in the officer's murder, he received a more lethal sentence than the shooter Christopher Craig (who was under 18). The film stars Christopher Eccleston (Derrick Bentley), known for "Our Friends in the North", "28 Days Later", "Dr Who" Paul Reynolds (Christopher Craig) who is known for "Absolutely Fabulous", "You get lucky” Robert Morgan (PC Miles) who is known for “Doctors” “Midsomer Murders” “The story is about two young boys who become good friends and are caught committing a crime. Derek was easy to lead, so the director uses this to show how easily Derek was influenced by Chris. During the crime scene, Derek yells at Chris to "let him do it", but doesn't mean to start shooting, but Craig starts shooting at the police officers. DC Fairfax heard what Derek said and misunderstood the meaning and thought Derek was encouraging what Chris was doing. Craig then shoots an innocent police officer in the head with a single shot, then is arrested and brought to court with Derek. When brought to trial, both were found guilty, but Derek received a much worse punishment than Craig, even though he wasn't the one who killed the officer. Peter Medak directed the film according to his own opinion. He had many ways of using... middle of paper ......r close-ups and special camera angles, like when he was with the group of kids breaking into the shed . He shows Derek trouble but makes it seem like it's never his fault. It shows you how people use aggressive language towards Derek, but he never retaliates but only uses a polite tone. The director only shows his point of view which may seem biased, but he believes that Derek was deceived by British justice and that it had to be shown to the public. The movie made people feel sorry for Derek and helped them understand the situation he was in. I believe that capital punishment is a mixture of good and evil. It's true because if some are willing to commit a crime they should be willing to pay the consequences, but in cases like Derek Bentley's it's wrong because an innocent life was taken for no reason sufficient..
