Essay / Analysis of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner - 1082
INTRODUCTION TO THE REPORTThe Boeing 787 Dreamliner was first announced to the public in January 2003 with an approximate cost of five billion dollars, since sales of the aircraft were high, it was supposed to enter commercial service in 2008, but the construction of aircraft seemed more anticipated than expected, since the management decided to use composite materials as an alternative to traditional metals, because composite materials are lighter, stronger , less expensive and are also resistant to a wide variety of chemical agents, including acid rain and acid rain. As these are the conditions in which metals suffer, Boeing also shared its views on aircraft development with suppliers who delivered on a much more anticipated project than expected. More than three years later, after the project exceeded the estimated budget, the 787 finally entered commercial service in September 2011. REPORT SUMMARY One of the most notable crucial choices made by Boeing in the 787 outsourcing project was been identified. In reality, Boeing had composed and manufactured the vast majority of parts for its plane. For the 787 project, the choice was made to go further towards a framework assembly model. In the combination model, Boeing could partner with outside suppliers around the world who could help plan, produce and supply segments for the aircraft. These parts could be transported to Boeing's production lines in the United States and assembled in the final article. On paper, the choice of acting as a “framework integrator” instead of a manufacturer was proposed. This spreads the danger and shifts expenses to suppliers while reducing the risk required by Boeing....... middle of paper ......h all expenses included. Challenge of overseeing and incorporating a huge change in offering and developing models.REFFERENCES1. Boeing Commercial Aircraft – Why Projects Fail. 2014.
