    The Puritans of the Crucible lived to obtain God's grace. All sinners, liars and adulterers were condemned to hell before the eyes of God himself. Arthur Miller, the mastermind behind the sad and heartbreaking play The Crucible, succeeds in telling the story of the complicated relationship between John and Elizabeth Proctor. During the dark days of so-called witchcraft spreading through the streets of Salem, Massachusetts, John and Elizabeth's relationship quickly goes from distant and protective to united before their true love is torn apart by the waiting rope the life of John Proctor.Elizabeth Proctor suspected her husband John Proctor of having had an "inappropriate" relationship with Abigail Williams. Marriage is built on trust and communication. Although Elizabeth can't just walk away from this marriage, considering the fact that she took a vow to be with John Proctor for the rest of her life. Things can get quite awkward and in a very distant way to the point of losing trust and the main element of communication. For example, John Proctor had to go to the village to see what was going on with these rumors that Betty Parris was bewitched. However, on his way to the village, he met Abigail with great shame. John knew she should stay away. As he walked home, Elizabeth said, “Were you alone with her?” on page 53. Proctor stubbornly replied, "For a moment alone, yes," which then happened on page 54. Trust was permanently lost and the awkward distance between John and Elizabeth deepened with the time.
