Essay / The Impact of Gender Roles - 1166
Observing my grandparents and some older neighbors on my street, I came to believe that aging has different effects on men and women. It can start as early as adulthood, when people's physical appearance begins to change. I think women are more likely to dye gray hair and hide wrinkles to maintain a more youthful appearance. I also think that women can remain more social while men are more likely to become more reclusive. Men and women often cling to the past and do not accept new ideas either. It seems to me that women are more likely to adopt new ideas, because men would feel the need to occupy an "alpha" position, which would make it more difficult to learn new things from younger people once they get older. I think this stems from gender roles learned in younger years and can be attributed to a person's personality.
