Ideology can be defined as a system of ideas, views and values essentially shared by a group of people and can also be interpreted as a “ discourse” that gives meaning to society. Ideology is not only used to construct a certain meaning in cinema, but it is also present in other forms of media such as magazines, newspapers and advertising. According to Giannetti (2013), ideology can be seen as "a set of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual group, class and culture" and "a given set of implicit values in any human endeavor, including filmmaking.” . Not only is the media influenced by ideology, but school and home life are other institutions that can also be influenced by ideas and theories. The meanings interpreted in the film through "ideology" often conflict with already existing ideologies which are made up of our own ideas or beliefs as ideological viewpoints and principles can sometimes differ from our personal image.
