  • Essay / Reflecting on Mindfulness - 735

Although I wish I had more foundational knowledge, it gave me a better understanding of this practice. The eight-week MBCT experience was valuable to me outside of the classroom, as I expanded and enhanced my own personal mindfulness practice. I remember early on that J. Lane said that the goal behind us was that this eight-week practice would give us the ability to teach by example. We are better equipped to share and teach our clients something that we ourselves have personally experienced. This experience not only gave me the opportunity to better understand the practice but also the dedication and effort required by the clients we ask to participate in such an exercise and experience; especially if they are juggling their personal lives and commitments. You can be encouraging and patient with them as you remember your journey, your struggles, and your triumphs. You can help support and reassure them that there is no right or wrong way and that those who try to be "perfect" by meditating or practicing are what "practice" is. is a matter of judgments that you/they will eventually learn to observe and not.
