Functionalists compare society to biological anatomy, where institutions within society act like human organs because they all depend on each other and if there was a fault in the one of them, it would have an impact as an integer. Davis and Moore talk about the inequalities apparent in today's society and how they are necessary to ensure that the most important jobs are filled by the most capable and intelligent beings such as doctors and parliamentarians. They then explain how this is done through certain rewards and roles assigned within the job. These jobs require years of education and training to complete and will therefore be given to the most capable individuals, whether from the upper or lower classes.
