  • Essay / The Danger of Overpopulation - 675

Overpopulation is considered to be one of the most dangerous problems affecting our world very badly. Our world is now completely overpopulated. People suffered greatly from overpopulation. Because overpopulation causes many other problems, it is easier to catch and spread diseases. And that leads to food shortages. Overpopulation also poses a problem for the environment because the population produces a lot of waste and the earth will not be able to handle so much waste one day. Media will play a very important role in making people aware of such a problem and start solving it. And one of the smartest ways to discuss the issue and raise awareness about it is to present it to the public in an ironic way in the form of cartoons. Let's take these two cartoons as an example. The first cartoon shows the earth as a human being and it is beaten up, which shows us how much the earth is suffering from overpopulation. The second cartoon also shows the earth as a human being, but this time he (the earth man) is showered by a lady, which shows us the amount of pollution caused by this problem. Although both drawings address overpopulation and its effects on Earth using certain persuasive techniques, the drawing of the earthly man and this lady is much stronger and more convincing, due to the clever use of certain techniques like irony, exaggeration and symbolism. use irony to raise awareness and open their eyes to the effects of the problem. Verbal irony, by definition, is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning, while situational irony is the difference between the way things are and the way which they should be. As for the first cartoon, the...... middle of paper ......population. Both cartoonists used this technique in a good way to show the effects of overpopulation, but perhaps the second is clearer than the first because it shows more aspects and effects of the problems using this technical. Using these three techniques sends a very clear message to people that overpopulation is affecting the earth and our world in a very bad way, not only that but the second cartoonist managed to show people that overpopulation leads to many other serious problems, which warn people about the dangers of this problem and inspire them to start looking for solutions and answers to such a problem. Ultimately, both cartoons managed to depict the problem using these three techniques. However, the second cartoon seems to have been more successful in getting the message across to people through a more clever use of irony and symbolism..
