Comparison of three prominent women in American history (1616-1768)Women did not have many rights between 1616 and 1768, these three women Prominent Pocahontas, Anne Hutchinson and Hannah Griffitts will show many changes for women's symbols, from the American colony to American Christianity to the boycott of British goods. All three were involved in religious, political and cultural aspects during this era, bringing many changes and history. There are three documents that will be used to compare these three women Pocahontas Engraving (1616), Simon Van De Passee, The Examination of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson at the Court at Newton (1637), David D. Hall and Women's Role In Boycotting English Goods, Hannah Griffits (1768), The Female Patriots. Simon Van De Pasee was a young Dutch artist who painted the famous painting of Pocahontas, the only painting of her in his lifetime. Pasee portrayed Pocahontas as an aristocrat. He didn't try to make her an anglicized Pocahontas; she is still recognized as Native American in her painting. At this time, Pocahontas was the daughter of a powerful Indian ruler in the New World, who married an Englishman named John Rolfe and settled in England. Looking closely at the portrait, it seems that Pocahontas appears grave, her cheeks are sunken, and her hand is skeletal. (Horwitz p 3) It seems that Simon Va De Pasee wanted people to see Pocahontas before she became seriously ill, which along with his painting gave a brief history of her. Before Pocahontas met John Rolfe, Jamestown was going through a period of famine. Pocahontas gave the English food and warned them of the attacks her father was planning against the English. In 1614, Pocahontas would convert to Christianity, change her name to Rebecca, and have the middle of paper today.
