Essay / The Impact of Facebook on Academic Performance of Students
Facebook is one of the most famous social networking sites that has become part of the daily routine of most students. This has led researchers to question whether students' use of this networking site influences their academic performance. This literature review will examine and synthesize current published research regarding the impact of Facebook on student academic outcomes. Although most studies fail to determine the relationship between Facebook and academic achievement, all researchers contribute to understanding how Facebook might affect students' academic success. Although some studies assume that Facebook has no impact on academic performance, most studies show that there is a significant relationship between Facebook usage and students' academic performance, which is indicated by the GPA and Student Engagements.Minor Research on the Impacts of Facebook on Academic PerformanceLittle research has found that there is no relationship between Facebook and student academic performance. For example, Sana Rouis examines that Facebook has no significant effect on student achievement (296). As part of her research, she surveyed a large group of 203 undergraduate students and used two different types of data analysis (298). Focusing on the same type of participants, Syarif Husin Lubis et al. also found that there was no difference between Facebook users and non-users in terms of academic achievement (590). Although Lubis et al. surveyed a smaller number of participants, their research is more in-depth than Rouis's because it uses more control variables (591). Furthermore, unlike Rouis, Lubis et al. are more detailed in their research by examining ...... middle of article ...... age (CGPA) among third year biomedical science students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UKM.
