    Teaching in the lifelong learning sector encompasses many students: age ranges, backgrounds and abilities. As a result, the roles, responsibilities and boundaries of the guardian may at first glance seem overwhelming. This assignment will focus on the role, responsibilities and limitations of a tutor in the context of teaching in the age group of 16 to 18 years. It will reflect on the needs of learners within my own role in the curriculum (Learning to Work) at Tyneside Home, who have not reached their potential in mainstream education and who are following the apprenticeship with many personal, social and academic barriers. For these learners in particular, “the experiences associated with learning may have been negative: failure, embarrassment, feelings of not belonging, low self-esteem. In the FE sector in particular, we often find pupils, whatever their age, who have not been successful in mainstream compulsory education. Helping them regain the confidence and motivation to learn is part of what makes FE teaching such a challenging and rewarding profession. Wallace (2005, p.95) The assignment will focus on the importance of structure within the learning programme, how individual barriers to learning should be overcome and the importance of the tutor relationship /learner. A robust onboarding process is imperative to allow the tutor to understand what motivated the learner to participate in the program, what they hope to achieve during their learning and create an individual learning plan. An integration allows a contractual process to occur between the tutor and the learner, whereby the tutor is able to establish the rules and expectations of the learner during the program, and the learner is able to understand what are their own responsibilities...... middle of document ......, p.11)The role of the tutor within the lifelong learning sector is to support, inspire and guide the learner through their journey - from the beginning through a solid assessment, through the middle as they learn and use the subject to the end, when they are ready to take the next step next stage of their learning – whether towards employment or continuing education/training. It is the tutor's responsibility to ensure that learners feel comfortable in this area. the learning environment and that they understand the importance of numeracy as a life and work skill and that they feel motivated and confident in their own abilities to use it. It is the responsibility of the tutor to help the learner achieve the goals they have set in their ILP and to inspire them to achieve their full potential. It is the role of the tutor to prepare the learner with the skills necessary to succeed in life..
