    Crime and deviant behavior surprisingly contribute to increasing “social activity” among various different people within a society. Therefore, crime and deviant behavior bring "people together in a common posture of anger and indignation... when these people come together to express their outrage at the offense... they develop a closer sense of solidarity than it existed before” (Erikson 4). For example, in the case of Steven Avery, the people of Manitowoc, Wisconsin all had very strong feelings towards Steven Avery and his family and as a result were considered deviant people in their own hometown.
