One minute, a student is mindlessly looking at his friends' spring break photos. The next thing they realize, Facebook has wasted two hours of their life. Social media sites are highly addictive and spending too much time on them jeopardizes their academic performance as well as their overall well-being” (Barefoot 2). My classmate Whitney Wire said, “I think Facebook can prevent students from succeeding academically. They estimate that they will be on Facebook for thirty minutes, and that turns into hours, while during that time, their studies are not completed, which results in failing grades” (interview with Wire). Would like students to understand that social media Media sites such as Facebook are a wonderful tool to use to interact with other students but, if they are not careful, it can prevent them from being successful at it. According to Fluent, “in May 2015, among students aged 17-25 found that the vast majority limited their social media activities to less than six hours per day. six hours or more per day on Facebook, but that was still ahead of the 8% who spent the same amount of time on Instagram (owned by Facebook) and the 3.4% who spent six hours or more per day reading and writing. tweets” (eMarketer website). I think this is a good start because these students know that success in college is fundamental to having a good life and that Facebook is not going anywhere at any time.
