Essay / The importance of pressure in physiotherapy
This is a home exercise program that allows the patient to actively participate in their recovery. Gently moving the soft tissues prepares them for the treatment they receive from the therapist. Time previously spent in the therapy session to initiate a change in the tissues is instead used to promote additional release and flexibility. The therapist is able to focus treatment time on stubborn areas of connective tissue restriction that have not changed in response to exercise. The position used by the patient to perform the exercises helps the therapist identify the source of the problem which is usually not in the same location as the patient's main complaint. This partnership between therapist and patient results in faster recovery and better pain relief for the patient.
