HR________TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Representative Michelle Mayer introduced the following bill which was referred to the Committee on the Rehabilitation Centers ActSection One: The purpose of this bill law is to create a solution to the war on drugs currently raging in the country. UNITED STATES. This bill will establish guidelines for a reasonable way to slowly wean America from its current dependence on the use of depressants and stimulants. Section Two: Over the years, the war on drugs has become a serious issue in American politics. It wasn't officially a problem until the 1970s, when President Nixon tried to stop the increase in crime rates that he believed was attributed to increased drug use, although the first law prohibiting narcotics was passed in 1875. During the 1800s, drug abuse was enacted. So widespread, doctors prescribed opium, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin to treat tetanus, dysentery, fever, and migraines. Since then, the government has created different laws and laws in hopes of creating a better society; one without the use and need for illegal narcotics. Most people would agree that all drugs should be illegal and possession should be punishable by a hefty fine or imprisonment. However, some will vouch for the legal use of narcotics by claiming that the state has nothing to do with what people do in their free time. The debate over whether recreational drugs, like marijuana, should be legal or not is also ongoing. debate. Some people argue that because it's not additive, there's no harm in making it legal. Others would say it is a gateway drug to the more hardcore narcotics. Right now, obviously, with so many American citizens addicted to using one or another paper medium......
