Reading a book from time to time helps us not to be ignorant of the outside world. Readers often dare to compare and discuss the books they have read. This works when we read two literary masterpieces that could be both very similar and at the same time very different stories. I had the great fortune to read the screenplay for “To Kill a Mockingbird” as well as the memoir “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. After reading these two great literary works, I dare to compare the main characters, Scout from “To Kill a Mockingbird” and Maria from “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. The main intentions of these two books are to teach a lesson to their readers, whether children or adults. In the story “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Scout is the main character of the story. She is a 7 year old child who lives with her father Atticus and her brother Jim. Her mother died when Scout was just a little girl. This is why she lives in a single-parent home.
