Ever since we could walk and talk, we have always been told to respect our elders. Growing up, we used this old advice to gain the respect of our younger siblings and first graders. This quote was established on the premise that your elders have more experience, therefore they are wiser. They are able to give you insight into your life and the world around you. In “A Celebration of Grandfathers” by Rudolfo A. Anaya, three ideas he receives from his grandfather are about having patience, praying for rain, and life transformation. One of the most enduring pieces of advice that was given to Rudolfo A. Anaya Anaya and expressed in his story, “A Celebration of Grandfathers,” was to be patient. Anaya described her grandfather as a quiet man, who spoke in short, precise sentences. “Ten paciencia,” he told her when trying to learn English as a second language, which means Spanish, be patient. Anaya had repeatedly shouted that he couldn't learn English, but his grandfather had taught him that patience was a necessary virtue when learning a new language....
