Essay / Alternative Medicine: Junk Science - 1900
Alternative medicines are widely used around the world and are becoming more controversial every day. Alternative medicine is considered “junk science” in the eyes of some doctors. Not only do they view drugs as “junk science,” but they also fear that these drugs could potentially be very dangerous. “Junk science” according to junkscience.com is “flawed scientific data and analysis used to promote special interests and hidden agendas.” In other words, “junk science” that practices or studies something without scientific proof or scientific proof of the study. In the eyes of some doctors, alternative medicine does not exist; these are only therapeutic treatments which can be potentially dangerous. Doctors believe that alternative medicines can be potentially dangerous due to the lack of scientific evidence. Because there is no scientific evidence, they don't know the full potential of the treatment, they don't know the long-term effects, and they also don't know if the treatments can open the door to other diseases or bacteria . And ultimately, you'll end up with a disease that's worse than the reason you're taking the drug in the first place. In addition to alternative medicines, there are also complementary medicines. According to Wikipedia.com, complementary medicine is alternative medicine used with conventional medical treatment in a belief not proven by scientific methods that "complements the treatment." Complementary medicines are basically the companion to conventional medicines, they help conventional medicines work to the best of their abilities, think of it as a Batman and Robin type concept. Complementary medicine exists to help conventional medicines in the areas they occupy...... middle of paper ......variety of shapes and forms. There are many ways to take these medications, as simple as inhaling the aromas of hydrosol. While some doctors think that alternative medicines are just a waste of time and effort because they are "junk science", they have effects on people that in most cases , most medications do not have. For example, medicinal marijuana is often prescribed to patients suffering from eating disorders or taking medications that completely suppress appetite. Alternative medicine may not be based on scientific evidence, but it is based on a lot of visual evidence. By visual evidence I mean the evidence provided by the patient's observation of the treatment, how they respond to the treatment, does it help, will it cause long term effects, etc. Alternative medicines are diversifying and multiplying like crazy and are the medicine of tomorrow.
