Essay / American Red Cross Club and Longwood University
Ever since I was in high school, my friends have asked me to donate blood, but I really didn't think about it until I got to college. A family member of mine is currently battling cancer and has partnered with the American Red Cross to host blood drives in his honor. After seeing how they helped my cousin and the potential longevity this will have on his life, that's when I realized it was the right thing for us to do. The thought of being able to help save at least three people's lives every time I go makes me feel like a better person. I'm trying to convince students and teachers on the Longwood campus to come donate blood. In the past we have managed to reach our goal every time, but the success of the blood drive is due to the fact that we have had many adult donors. With this initiative, it would be good to attract younger donors. It is very difficult to reach students because they do not think about donating. We're trying to attract more young people, because if they start donating when they're young, we can use them longer. There are more than enough people who could do this
