It's not about technique or detail. The Kore stands in a rigid pose, obedient and motionless as it were, but overflowing with strength and femininity through her soft arms, the kind features of her face and the subtle suggestion of the curvature of her body under the heavy peplos. The ornate hair that falls naturally over her shoulders, her measured “smile,” and the pigmented iris give the statue a sense of abundant liveliness and potential energy. Daphne is different, the movements are done all over her body. His arms stretching, his neck, his chest rotating, his legs bent. All this makes her not only a sculpture of someone, but also a living scene that tells us something. Kore cannot attract people as long as Daphne can because it has no deeper meaning than Daphne. Daphne looks more like free lines but Kore has a solid shape. We can see the improvements in art through these two pieces.
