Essay / Comparison of Symphony and Liberty - 810
Liberty (v5)Vendor: Softlink www.softlinkint.com/libertyLiberty is simple while having all the features any library would need! Liberty is committed to growing and evolving based on the needs of individual libraries, and this would likely be a better fit for a special purpose library. While having fully integrated core modules (designed to save the user time), Liberty also has a number of additional modules that can be integrated into the system. Some of them are Liberty Cloud, OverDrive and Z-Catlogging. There are also some useful subscription-based add-ons, such as Syndetics Solutions and the Web Services API. There are a few features of this LMS that greatly benefit the user/client. With Library Link Applicator, it is possible to connect to library services through various digital devices, such as iPhones and smartphones. Search options are also a fabulous tool, because they create a broader sphere in which to find items. Liberty's user engagement includes things like book reviews, RSS feeds, and image searches. A benefit for library staff is the full integration of Liberty features. which creates an easy to navigate system and the removal of redundant data entry. Efficiency is an obvious key thought with Liberty. The fact that it is fast and efficient is an added advantage. A simple, easy-to-use interface, quick and easy registration for select items, a fully integrated Z39.50 portal for rapid cataloging, a powerful search engine that provides immediate resources, and a large amount of useful technology (such as interfaces to engage customers), all move towards an enjoyable experience for both the library and the customer. Liberty is certainly a versatile LMS, which offers the ...... middle of paper ...... users. Both are efficient in design, offering powerful search functions and room for technological growth. And both have very good security features. Symphony also has a built-in offline mode that can be used in the event of a network or power outage. While Symphony and Liberty both display real customer focus and commitment, only Symphony appears to have an online account solution, which allows customers to make requests and manage their account. Comparing these two ILMS and noting the many similarities and differences was a very enlightening experience – realizing how ILMS can really help a library better serve patrons with the many modules and features they offer. .Works CitedSoftlink (also used “Liberty” brochure) www.softlinkint.com/libertySirsiDynix www.sirsidnyix.com/symphony
