Essay / The Complexities and Struggles of Love - 703
The desire to release the emotions of love toward someone is intense, but coupled with the fear of rejection and overwhelming feelings of care, one forces one to write his feelings rather than expressing them. This acute need is expressed by Paul Callus in his poem Unspoken Words, when he says: “I often scribble in the sand.” The need to express a person's feelings without speaking can be resolved through writing and, preferably, in a substance that can be destroyed, thereby erasing the very existence of the passage. Callus illustrates this perfectly with the use of sand. The sand truly extinguishes the existence of the very words written there with a simple swipe of the hand, easing compressed feelings and allowing the words to be erased. With the ability to eradicate deep emotions, while relieving the urge to reveal them, affection is kept within.
