  • Essay / Bostion Elections and Casino Results

During the Boston mayoral election last Tuesday, November 5, there was a referendum on building a casino in East Boston and the surrounding area Revere. To get permission to begin construction of the casino, citizens of both towns had to vote and decide whether the project would go ahead. The pro-casino citizens of East Boston were confident they would get more than sixty percent of the vote. Revere citizens who agree with the project received a large number of votes in favor, with Revere's pro-casino group saying they would get at least sixty-five percent of the vote. One group highlights the benefits of building a casino and the benefits it can bring to the city. The anti-casino group focuses on the impacts of a casino on their neighborhood and small businesses. Each group has its own point of view, but they can come to a mutual agreement for the benefit of the city. A simple solution could be to build the casino outside of Boston, where they have a place in western Massachusetts. The last word rests with the State of Massachusetts which licenses the casino, but this decision will be on December 31..
