    This essay will, however, focus on developing countries and the available alternatives to mitigate natural and man-made disasters that are available to policy makers. Developing countries are generally countries that have not achieved a significant degree of industrialization in relation to their population and have, in most cases, an average to low standard of living. There is a strong correlation between low income and high population growth. In today's globalized country, countries are classified as either developed or developing countries. This form of categorization is based on the social, political and economic status of the country, that is to say its earning capacity, its standard of living and its type of governance. In other words, developed countries can be considered wealthy, with effective governance, high gross domestic product (GDP), political stability and social welfare. Some of these developed countries include Europe, North America, Japan and New Zealand, among others. In contrast, developing countries are characterized as inferior, poverty-stricken, having high levels of unemployment and illiteracy, highly dependent on developed countries, low GDP and an unstable political system. They lack some basic amenities and resources, mainly due to an ineffective governance system and lack of policy implementation and enforcement. A few developing countries would be concentrated in Africa, the Caribbean, South and Central America, Asia and the Middle East. Each developing country is independent of each other and has its own views and concerns about life.
