Essay / Medea's Decision by Euripides - 972
In life, a large part of our future rests on our decisions. These decisions come in different shapes and sizes, and some have the potential to propel our future to greatness, while others can destroy our lives to the point of no return. In Euripides' play Medea, he tells his audience the dramatic story of a woman who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals of revenge. In Medea, many important decisions are made throughout the story. Medea's decision to let her desire for revenge rule her life is, I believe, the most important. Medea is a tragedy that shows the true destruction and horror resulting from a single decision. At the beginning of the play, we learn that Medea and her two children have been abandoned by Jason. Jason is the husband of Medea who leaves her to live with the daughter of Creon, the king of Corinth. Jason knows that by being with his daughter, he will one day achieve power and glory. Jason's decision to leave Medea for his daughter Creon is conveniently the cornerstone of Medea's quest for revenge. There are some conversations in the play between Medea and Jason, which show that Jason still has feelings for Medea. They also show his true love for his two children, but Jason's lust for power and glory is seen as the most important thing. He finds excuses to abandon his family by saying: he is doing this in their best interest. Although the reader may conclude that he is doing it for his own benefit. Jason doesn't seem to realize how truly mad Medea has become because he left her. The media's love and devotion to Jason controls his life. Jason's decision to leave her optimally turns Media into a sociopath. With this mindset, Medea, optimally... middle of paper ...... the game has many important decisions, but Medea's decisions to take revenge, which leads her to murder many people in the process, are the most dramatic decision of all. This shows the horror that can result from our decisions and that we should not let revenge rule our lives like it did for Medea. Overall the story was very entertaining with all of Medea's unthinkable decisions and she received no punishment for what she did which really made the play unpredictable. Euripides used a variety of concepts throughout the play, leaving it up to the audience to interpret Medea in different ways. Revenge, betrayal, passion, love, etc. are all feelings represented in Medea and help shape the overall meaning of the play. In conclusion, we can feel that Medea's goal of revenge took over her life and she made the decision to choose passion over reasoning..
