  • Essay / Why I'm an athlete - 1090

When I was little, my parents always encouraged and helped me to try anything I wanted to try. When I wanted to try dancing, my mother signed me up for ballet and tap classes. It was great, especially tap dancing, however, because I was so young, I valued sleep more than my dance classes and lost interest. The next thing I tried was football. It was a lot of fun and I continued for many years. I think the reason I loved it so much was because the whole time I played I had the same supportive teammates and the same encouraging coach, we really were a team. Alas, it was too good to last. It wasn't until the team finally broke up that I started to slowly lose interest in football and my involvement waned. Around the same time I was involved in football, I started to really get interested in my school work and more academic clubs. My interest in academics began when, in third grade, I had a friend in the Signet program. I loved talking to her about all the cool things she learned and how much fun she had learning them. I begged my parents and teachers to get me involved in the program and I was finally able to take my test. Joining Signet was one of the best things I've ever been a part of because it really opened my eyes to the fun, more interesting side. parts of school and learning. Up until then, I didn't really think much about school, I never really had any particular problems, apart from a slight reading disorder, which made learning to read more difficult. At that time, school for me was a place where I had to go every day and where all my friends were. To this day, I am still part of the Signet program and have learned a lot. Signet is really what sparked my interest in college clubs and p...... middle of paper ......becoming a doctor or nurse, I didn't even think about physical therapy until my mother suggests it to me. , who saw one for his back. She was able to connect me with her physical therapist once I expressed interest. I completed two days of volunteering and shadowing a practicing physical therapist and seeing what he did in an average day. I was hooked. I began researching what it meant to be a physical therapist and how they could help others in many ways and in many different settings. I decided then that this was what I wanted to do in life. I can't wait to begin learning the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in my chosen field, and while I know it won't be easy, I will work as hard and diligently as possible to achieve my goals, not only to become a physiotherapist but also to be the first in my family to obtain a university degree.
