Essay / The Dawn of a New Beginning - 1172
The Dawn of a New BeginningMany mornings during my childhood, my father would take me to watch the sunrise over the water. The place he took me to was discovered several years ago and was the perfect place to watch the sunrise. It consisted of a hill surrounded only by the purity of nature. The hill was surrounded by trees and descended slowly until the base of the hill met the water's edge. At the top of the hill stood a huge Wye oak, which to a child looked like a skyscraper. This tree was as wide as a house and full of green leaves. It was strategically placed in the center of the hill which was also the optimal point to view the sunrise. On one side of this hill was a field of waving flowers. The flowers formed a rainbow of colors, like those in the field near the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz. On the other side was a crystal blue lake whose top looked like a sheet of ice. This place was the “perfect spot” for sunrise because no matter what was wrong in life, this quiet place, which resembled the Garden of Eden, was an escape. No matter where someone stood on the hill, the sun and nature were always beautiful. I remember one of my first visits to this place very well. We got up early and my dad drove us up the hill. We laid our blanket under the tree and leaned against its massive trunk. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity (which was really only a matter of minutes), the sun began to peer into the trees almost like a child looking over the couch to see if anyone was there. had discovered during a game of hide and seek. As the sun slowly rose over the trees, and with it my excitement level. I felt like I was almost in harmony with nature. My eyes followed the sun from when it was a red-orange ball, and wasn't even above the trees, to when it became a whitish-yellow ball in the middle of the sky. As the sun rose and I began to wake up a little more and moved closer to the water's edge.
