Essay / America and the War on Drugs - 1211
Maybe Americans take what they have for granted and forget that there are other countries with problems. Why does America care about what's happening in other countries like Colombia when they have their own drug problems? The United States of America has a fairly significant drug trafficking problem, but compared to Colombia it is relatively minor. To help Colombia solve its problem, the US Senate decided to send troops there and take control. This new involvement will have many consequences and what can be done with them, for example the cost of war, loss and gain of jobs and physical side effects. War is now a very serious subject of study for sociologists, it gives them a chance to study people and how they react to certain environments. Sociologists have three main paradigms by which they can match people to learn how to function in certain circumstances. The paradigms used are the structural-functional, social-conflict and symbolic-interaction paradigms. Here is a brief description to help make the sociologist's point of view more understandable. The structural-functional paradigm has several interrelated parts; Morally desirable functional consequences and conflicts are often destructive. How is society integrated? What consequences for these different parties? The social conflict paradigm is what we find when a society is in a competitive situation. Some groups have power and others want it, some win and others lose. Finally, the symbolic interaction paradigm is that society is like a stage where people define and redefine meaning as they interact with each other. This brief description should help make this writing on the sociological view of the war on drugs a little easier to understand. In case of war, people usually tend to suffer heavy financial losses, the reason is that prices increase to cover expenses. loss of other things. Money becomes very scarce in times of war because equipment such as cannons, tanks, troop shelters, etc., come at a cost. Unfortunately, this war will cost 1.7 billion dollars. National Public Radio host Patrick Simms decided to name a magazine series based on this war and this series would be called "Putting the War in the War on Drugs." This label is pretty accurate because Americans are paying to fight these drug lords and eliminate...... middle of paper ...... at home, those who are going to withdraw, the protesters who think that ending to drugs was a mistake and those I think it was right. All the signs are showing people the impact of drugs on their society as well as their daily lives. A paradigm that might shed light on this point is that of symbolic interaction, as people fought for what they believed in and succeeded in making symbols out of it. If people did not fight, they believed that the problems would remain unsolved and that America would be a tragic place to live. The war on drugs is a good idea if people don't fear losing their jobs or even suffering, but shaping the world. world we live in today. If paying for a war in another country is the only way to get the message across, then it must be done. People don't realize how deeply society is affected by drugs because most of society is involved in their use or contributes to their manufacture or even sale..
