  • Essay / Teaching Work Sample Review and Results - 638

After completing this teacher work sample and reviewing the results of all assessments, I learned a lot of valuable information about my teaching and learning from students who made me develop and grow as a future physical educator. One thing I have learned from my students' learning is that everyone progresses, develops, and learns at different rates. While teaching this Drums Alive unit, I noticed that some students were able to pick up the skills and concepts of Drums Alive immediately while others needed more time to develop further in the unit. Because of this variety of student learning and at different paces, I had to plan and create my lessons, activities, and routines to meet each student's abilities while still challenging all students in the class. Another thing I learned about my teaching during this Drums Alive unit is that as a teacher you need to be able to teach through many different learning styles. In every classroom, each student has a unique way of learning which may go through one or more learning styles such as physical, verbal, visual, auditory, social, solitary or logical learning. As a teacher, I taught each of these different types of learning styles throughout the Drums Alive unit to maximize the amount of student learning. During this Drums Alive unit, I learned that it is very important to develop a unit block plan in order to organize your lessons and unit objectives. The block plan made it very easy to teach and stay focused on my lesson and all the information and skills I wanted each student to learn by the end of certain lessons. Additionally, through this Drums Alive unit, I learned that closing classes is v...... middle of paper ...... and physical health. I also learned that as a future physical educator, I am able to assess my students in all areas and use my different types of assessments to demonstrate their learning. In the future, I will definitely assess my students using pre, formative, and post assessments so that I can determine their growth and progress as student learners. As a student teacher, I have also experienced my own growth and progress throughout the course of this Drums Alive unit. At the beginning of the unit, I was more reserved when teaching, but as the unit continued, I began to be more relaxed, more balanced, and more confident in what I was teaching. Thanks to this Drums Alive unit, I know that I will be able to take all of my new assessment strategies and teaching skills with me and use them with my future students as a future PE professional..
