The Importance of Group Work in Today's Organizations It could be argued that to be successful, modern organizations must actively develop groups of strong and consistent work. For what? Is it true that there is no place for the individualist in today's organization? The rapid advancement and improvement of information and communication technologies has led modern organizations to find new ways of working. One such method of innovation is through the use of a task force. More and more organizations are globalizing today, meaning they rely on distributed teams to perform certain tasks (Nedelko, Z, 2007). Although nowadays most jobs require some degree of individual and group work and it is up to management to identify which method might be appropriate for the task (Belbin, M, 2007). In this essay, I will examine how the organization can use the work group to its advantage and the different factors that can affect the performance of a work group. Additionally, I will also discuss when it is appropriate to use a task force and an individual, and discuss whether an organization can respond solely to the task force to be successful. A group can be defined as “any number of people who (1) interact with each other; (2) are psychologically aware of each other and (3) perceive themselves as a group” (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Some tasks can only be accomplished by the combined efforts of a group. The organization can use groups to complete projects, which will help it achieve its overall goal. However, for the group to be successful, they must understand what is expected of them and have the skills necessary to complete the task. . (Mullins, L, 2006) A group needs members with a diversity of skills. A company must have a workforce that... middle of paper ... it needs to identify when it is appropriate to bring in a task force and individuals to carry out the task.BibliographyBooksBrooks, I.
