Essay / Teen Suicide - 1447
Suicides are one of the leading causes of death among adolescents in today's society. The idea of ending one's life is growing in the minds of adolescents around the world. “To commit suicide to escape poverty or disappointed love, or physical or mental anguish, is the act of a coward rather than a courageous man, because fleeing from trouble is a form of cowardice. If it is true that the suicide braves death, he does not do it for a noble goal but to escape an evil” (Marcovitz 17). There are many reasons why someone might put their life in danger, such as depression, stress, the loss of a loved one, or bullying. Suicide is on the rise all over the world and must be considered a global threat. Globally, the rate of adolescent suicide is increasing every day; therefore, many precautions such as therapy, antidepressants, and suicide hotlines prevent such a tragedy from happening. Although some adolescents commit suicide without giving advance warning, most say or do things that warn people of their intention to commit suicide (Parks 63). There are various warning signs that a person can give. These signs may include a sudden loss of appetite, hopelessness, or persistent sadness. The way adolescents behave at school and at home can sometimes indicate depression (Galas 8). When one is depressed, it can lead people to drink or take drugs. Many adolescents choose alcohol or drugs to commit suicide (Galas 8). When drunk or under the influence, the thought of suicide can become more vivid and lead to the situation that actually occurs (Galas 67). Alcohol and some drugs can calm the body and relax the muscles. Some people believe that substances such as alcohol and drugs can increase suicidal thoughts middle of paper ......tter and it is never a good idea to attempt suicide because it has more effect. on friends and family rather than on the victim themselves. Therefore, individuals should become more aware of the causes and effects of suicide, so that they can be more vigilant and help those who may be suffering in silence. Works Cited Galas, Judith.
