Essay / Baseball: The Three Major Changes to the Rules of Baseball
This was very problematic for defensive players since the ball was thrown hard, hit harder, then dropped quickly. Back then, most people didn't care much about security. After gloves began to be allowed, many people still did not use them, as it was considered "unmanly" to use a glove (Davies, 37). This in turn created many ways for people to get injured playing baseball. So many rules have helped this one rule, hurt others while helping some. Baseball has been around since the mid-1800s. And there haven't been many major rule changes. Yet the rules that have been changed in the sport of baseball are important so that we can have the game of baseball. After asking pitchers to change the way they play, the length of the game has changed significantly and the way defenses play. With these changes, we can now watch "America's Pastime" as we know it.
