  • Essay / How have I changed as a writer? - 581

Over the past three months, I feel like I've accomplished a lot. As the semester comes to an end, I find myself reflecting not only on how I survived the first semester, but also on what I learned. The most important thing I've learned so far is how to become a better writer. I didn't think this could really happen to me. I didn't think I could handle all the work. I didn't think I could become a better writer. Somehow, after all the hours spent writing and putting effort into the papers I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I focused on two very important areas, with the attitude that if I could just improve in these areas, I would become a better writer. With the help of a wonderful teacher and a reliable tutor, I became a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content. Procrastination has become a very bad habit for me. It's very difficult to stop procrastinating everything once you get into the habit of doing it. Once, I had an essay due for my religion class. It was supposed to be ten pages long and we were asked to spend a lot of time on it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited until the very last minute to do it. I waited until the day before to do most of it. Needless to say, I woke up very late that night. In this class, there was always a part of the assignment due by a certain date before the final assignment was due. Having things due before the final document due date keeps me focused on my task and prevents me from procrastinating until the day before the document is due. There was one article that we had to get sources for a while before the paper's publication date and that required me to keep up with the journal, rather than letting it go to the last minute. This course taught me that the earlier you start, the more positive your end result will be..
