From 1995 to 2009, Arthur Levinson served as CEO of Genentech; currently it's Ian T. Clark. Genentech is a leading biotechnology company that uses human genetic information to discover, develop, manufacture and market medicines to treat people with serious or life-threatening diseases (2014). Biotechnology is the technology based on the science of cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve the lives of people and the health of our environment. Biotechnology uses cellular and biomolecular processes using the molecular mechanisms by which genetic and metabolic processes occur in plant, animal and microbial organisms. Using this technology, it provides breakthrough products and technologies to fight debilitating and rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, use less and cleaner energy, and have more industrial manufacturing processes. safer, cleaner and more efficient.
