Essay / Social Development of Fatherhood - 1868
A newspaper begins by stating that there has been an increase in the number of single-parent households headed primarily by the mother or other female figure. The father figure shapes the child's development, values, and overall well-being. This relationship is just as important as that of a mother. The bond provides the child with a strong role model who will provide discipline and also contribute to their physical well-being. There is a generalized social vision which shows that fathers lack attention compared to the mother who is considered superior and who mainly takes care of the child. The term absent father can include one who has died or one who is simply absent from the child's life, whether intentionally or not. The different ways in which a father can be absent are correlated with the child's development. The consequences will be less serious if the father is absent due to death than if it was intentional due to negligence. A study was conducted comparing single women throughout the child's development and a mother with a partner. With this information, it can be concluded that fatherhood affects children behaviorally, emotionally, and developmentally.
