Essay / The Importance of Communication in an Organization
Grapevine is one of the most prevalent forms of communication within organizations today. In my work, the vine has been around for years, but I just didn't know that was the name. The grapevine can include many things, from hiring to firing. The secrecy and competition that typically reigns in large organizations – around appointing new bosses, moving offices, downsizing decisions or realigning work assignments – encourages and maintains rumors. Christians should be aware of gossip and rumors and ensure that they do not promote negativity. Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV) says, “Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth, but only what is good, helpful for building up, that it may give grace to those who listen.” » My organization has been working on rumors because, as Fischer stated, rumors are reduced by effective communication (2009). In my department, very few people knew about the gossip and rumors surrounding hiring and firing. These people along the grapevine knew the information before it was previously published. Vine communication also involves electronic communication. Electronic communication has developed over the years. In my organization, many people prefer to be contacted electronically. Electronic communication allows individuals to communicate in a more convenient and different method. Fischer PhD, K. (2009). Presentation: Lesson 5 Organizational communication.
