When something goes wrong, they will find a way to deflect the blame from Lee, even though it may be his fault, onto someone else. “They love him. They don't blame him. They do impossible things for him. (p. 250) On the second day of the battle, when everything was going horribly wrong for the Confederate army, no one blamed Lee for the loss. It was his idea (what was his plan again...) and yet, after it failed, everyone took it over Longstreet. As Gorée says on page 240: “They can't blame General Lee. No more.
