  • Essay / History of Science - 2247

Science is the history of using systematic methods of study to make observations and collect facts. It covers areas of knowledge that deal with varied topics. The word science comes from a Latin word meaning “knowledge.” Some scientists search for clues to the origin of the universe; others examine the structure of molecules in the cells of living plants and animals. Scientists study why we act the way we do or attempt to solve complex mathematical problems to explore how the world works. Theories developed by these scientists cannot be accepted as part of scientific knowledge until they have been verified by the studies of other researchers. This must be tested repeatedly and found to be true. (p. 366-Ency brit) The first centuries of science During the first centuries, the current distinctions between the sciences became blurred. The study of nature and the world was carried out within the framework of hypotheses now rejected as magical or superstitions. The deeper historians penetrated into the roots of modern science, the more difficult it became to separate scientific attitudes and factual results from those that seemed to be their opposites. The ancient Greeks were among the first people to attempt to analyze natural events. Scientific thinking gradually developed and nature became less seen as the product of mysterious spiritual forces. People began to think that nature could be understood and controlled through science. What is Science 4Today, science has changed the lives of the world in many ways. Modern science and technology have completely transformed human life. To name a few, airplanes, automobiles, communications satellites, computers, plastics, televisions... middle of paper ... forecast meteorologists can prepare farmers for supply in water and other conditions which may be good or bad. for the crops. Meteorological satellites, also called metrological satellites, take pictures of Earth from distant altitudes. The images are used to trace the movements of clouds. Computers help meteorologists predict the weather. This type of forecast is called numerical forecasting. The research they perform helps predict weather conditions such as tornadoes and snowstorms. Additionally, weather satellites measure air temperature and humidity and also detect storms developing at sea. Computers can produce weather maps from observations anywhere in the world. (p. 55-56 ency Brit.) (p. 432 World Book) Aristotle The word meteorology comes from meteorologica, the title of a book by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle who wrote about meteorological observations.
