Essay / Thomas Jefferson and Monticello - 866
A person's home can tell you a lot about that person. In my own room, you'll probably find that I really enjoy books, but don't you wonder how the inventor and the third president's house showed you what he looked like? Thomas Jefferson was a very important man; however, it has many more facets than you think. Initially, the northeast portico shows Thomas Jefferson's deep appreciation for architecture. Jefferson himself got the idea for this wall from James Gibb's Book of Architecture. He used the book and designed a wall based on one of his creations. The original plan was supposed to be used for an octagonal structure, and Jefferson only used it for one wall. This shows that Jefferson cares about architecture and understands art, because designing a wall based on another design requires care and understanding. The compass rose he has at the top of the building also shows his love of architecture. The compass itself was connected to a weather vane located at the top of the roof. Allows Jefferson and his family to easily see the direction of the wind. The compass rose must have played an important role in the construction of the house, as it involved the construction of a weather vane on top of the house. Thomas Jefferson must have loved architecture because a compass rose is not a traditional part of most homes, so he must have wanted it there or for some reason. He must have asked for it once he built the house. Thomas Jefferson greatly appreciated books, and the northeast portico of his house demonstrates this. Additionally, the entry hall demonstrates Jefferson's understanding of history and the arts. In the entry hall, the Entablature of Thomas Jefferson shows Jefferson's understanding of the arts. Thomas Jefferson used details of the Corinthian temple in middle of paper......that the cabinet room is filled with tools to help him make discoveries. He even hands over custom-made tools for his purposes. Another tool he could have used for his inventions is his adjustable desk. The table was specially designed for drawing. This allowed the artist to move the table to the desired angle. Jefferson could have used this in many useful ways, drawing plans for inventions, recording observations in astronomy, and making propaganda for his side. The Cabinet room is filled with many tools; therefore, the room features Thomas Jefferson as the inventor. Thomas Jefferson was an inventor and a president, but there is more than that. We all act differently at home than in public, that's a known fact, so don't you want to know what Thomas Jefferson was like at home? Works Cited http://www.monticello.org/
