Mitosis is a more advanced binary fission where all organelles, DNA, RNA and chromosomes are replicated to form two identical cells. Meiosis is the cell division of gametes like sperm or eggs that require only half the number of chromosomes as other cells like skin cells. During meiosis, chromosomes first condense and sort into pairs that pair up and “join together” (homologous pairs). The chromosomes then “exchange” data and information, which causes the cell’s output to vary, unlike skin cells, and each cell is not identical. The cells then separate into two groups before beginning to divide like mitosis; however, the process is then repeated in the same manner, however, chromatids separating instead of whole chromosomes, the result of mitosis is four unique cells rather than two identical ones.
