    The growing population of older adults has brought with it a number of challenges for older adults, communities, and the state. The frequency of victimization of older people through various crimes has intensified and the criminal justice system faces increasing pressure to curb this trend. Although all states have legislation aimed at protecting the adult population from crimes, large gaps in reporting crimes against the elderly are evident across the country. Older people are increasingly vulnerable to physical, financial and emotional abuse. In many cases, citizens aware of these abuses may not report them to the police or older adults themselves may fear engaging in legal battles. Many crimes committed against the elderly largely reflect the general situation regarding criminal activity. However, certain categories of crimes are more prevalent among older people. This paper will discuss these categories of crimes in light of the manner and forms in which they occur. Additionally, the document will allude to existing gaps in criminal justice system reporting and efforts, as well as what needs to be done to address these gaps. According to the results of a recent study, older people face an increasing number of people. frequency of abuse, including widespread cases of financial exploitation and domestic violence.
