“If you can write it and you can say it, you can do it. » In a single sentence, Professor Eric Claville managed to attract me to the study of public administration. During the Introduction to Public Policy class, I was immediately fascinated by the idea that through effective communication I could improve policies and programs to better serve the public. Professor Claville's lessons allowed me to think analytically as I developed a science policy brief titled "Implementing a Statewide Texting and Driving Law in Arizona." . Soon, I was confronted with the idea that public administration was not only an agent of change, but also a tool to realize my passion. This is a possible route to taking on a leadership role that would make a difference to disadvantaged groups. An undergraduate degree in sociology strongly influenced my decision to pursue a Master of Public Administration (MPA). Academically, I have remained consistent in excelling in every task I have undertaken. I learned about group dynamics and how different approaches are used to resolve the problems they may cause and which are important to effectively serving the public. It also exposed me to extensive program planning. During my research internship under the direction of Dr. Zina McGee, I was able to create a research-based program that would help minority youth cope with victimization. This experience further aroused interest in this field, particularly in the planning of social programs. Selecting courses such as Public Policy and Statistics also broadened my knowledge in the field of public administration and data analysis. Through my rigorous coursework, I have gained the knowledge to think analytically, solve problems, and communicate effectively, both in writing and...... middle of paper...... creativity as a scientist.
