    The adrenal gland (adrenal gland) is located at the top of each kidney; so each person has two adrenal glands. The adrenal glands look like triangular-shaped objects on top of the kidneys. The adrenal glands play a crucial role in creating different hormones necessary for the complete functioning of the body. With each adrenal gland, they are both made up of two different sections. The first section is the adrenal cortex, located in the outer region of the adrenal gland; the second section called the adrenal medulla, which is located in the internal region of the adrenal gland. The two sections of the adrenal glands, the adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla, perform separate and distinct functions. The adrenal cortex, the outer region of the adrenal gland, secretes different hormones responsible for the body's metabolism, chemicals found in the blood, and different characteristics of the body. One of the hormonal components is corticosteroids, part of which is hydrocortisone, also called cortisol. Cortisol is the hormone that helps control the body's use of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The pituitary gland is a pea-sized gland located in the center of the skull. The pituitary gland is an extremely important link between the nervous system and the endocrine system. The pituitary gland regulates the amount of cortisol released by the adrenal glands. The role of cortisol in the body is vast, cortisol helps the body manage stress, reduce inflammation, immune system function and allows homeostasis to occur inside the body, ensuring the balance in different ways. A hormone called aldosterone regulates the level of sodium and potassium in the body to maintain blood volume throughout the change. Describing the adrenal glands in the endocrine system is not an easy task, there are so many different aspects to consider and take into consideration.
