  • Essay / Federalism and Constitutional Foundations - 1255

Civil liberties and civil rights are linked to the constitutional foundations in that the constitution is the basis for most, if not all, of the freedoms afforded to citizens. As mentioned earlier, the First Ten Amendments, also known as the Bill of Rights, define the fundamental rights and freedoms of every American citizen. Civil liberties and civil rights are also linked to interest groups as there are certain interest groups such as the NAACP whose sole purpose is to defend the freedoms and rights of its members. Civil rights and liberties are also linked to public policy, as some laws were created specifically for a civil rights issue, such as the ADA or the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was created to ensure equality of disabled people.
