Essay / The impact of remittances in Latin America
IntroductionIn Latin America, migration and remittances have become structural elements of the economy, society and political environment; due to underdevelopment and inequality in the region. Due to their relative importance, migration trends and the impact of remittances on the population of Latin America are the main topics that we will analyze in this research focused on reducing poverty and inequality. This research will aim to answer the following question: do remittances finance development? in the region? Do they help reduce poverty? Do they increase inequalities or help to reduce them? Are remittances used only for consumption or do they promote investment in a positive way? In order to achieve the objective and answer these questions, a review of the specialized bibliography will be carried out. Our main hypothesis is that remittances have a positive impact on the general economy and have contributed to the reduction of poverty and inequality in Latin America. We expect to find that migrant profiles have changed in recent years, becoming selective in terms of income and education, changing the volume and quantity of remittances. We will also explore the impact of remittances on macroeconomic variables such as poverty, inequality, investment and some microeconomic issues. : education level, health outcomes, labor supply and entrepreneurship. The paper is divided as follows: in the first section, we present studies on the effects of remittances at the macro and micro levels; we then review some migratory facts from the region, paying attention to the different profiles of the beneficiaries in order to better understand Latin American migratory flows towards development...... middle of the article ......ion from From Latin America to Europe: trends and policy challenges.
