Essay / The Importance of Mindfulness - 1125
Practicing mindfulness can develop skills that can provide resilience in the face of difficult events (Karremans, Schellekens, & Kappen, 2015). Johns, Allen, and Gordon (2015) explored the relationship between aspects of mindfulness and forgiveness of infidelity and found that the mindfulness skill of not reacting was positively related to higher levels of forgiveness . Additionally, lower levels of acting mindfully and being nonjudgmental about experiences were related to higher levels of unforgiveness. Given that close relationships and romantic relationships rely on similar processes for relational functioning, this study aims to extend the type of forgiveness to non-romantic relationships by measuring general willingness to forgive. Studies have also examined the relationship between mindfulness and other emotions, which is why empathy is introduced as a mediating variable in the relationship between mindfulness and forgiveness. Wachs and Cordova's (2007) study found that emotional repertoire skills such as empathy, perspective taking, anger expression control, and anger self-soothing are all related to full consciousness. In times of conflict, careful awareness of a person's own reactions can increase empathy toward another person by understanding the role that external means play in influencing the actions of others (Karremans, Schellekens, & Kappen).,
