  • Essay / Stricter gun control will save lives an article by...

Gun control in America considered ineffective, citizens believe current gun control laws do not protect lives, but take them away. In order to solve this problem, many believe that more laws should be put in place. In doing so, they believe that guns would no longer be in the hands of criminals and lives would not end before their time. In Christine Watkins' article, "Stronger Gun Control Will Save Lives," she explains that if guns were things that actually protected us, America would be the safest country in the world. She also claims that a gun in any home is more likely to be mistreated, causing an accidental shooting. She also suggests that more sensible laws would greatly benefit gun owners (Stronger Gun Control). One of his arguments is quite nice: more sensible gun laws would be quite helpful in the long run. By having more safety guidelines, such as: trigger locks, which prevent the weapon from being used, keeping ammunition and the weapon separate, never pointing a weapon at another person, unless your life is in danger, making sure the weapon is properly cleaned on a regular basis, and even teaching children how to properly handle weapons. By taking these common sense precautions, it would prevent countless accidental misfires in homes. On the other hand, laws put in place to simply make it more difficult to obtain a gun are not the solution. By keeping guns out of the hands of lawful citizens, only lawbreakers will benefit. Author John R. Lott, Jr., wrote the book More Guns Less Crimes, informing readers that having a concealed weapon, rather than openly carrying a weapon, has more potential to reduce crime rates. crime across America.
