Just as worrying as the state of human rights today, I could have mentioned the 106 schoolgirls poisoned by a mysterious gas in Afghanistan which have been ignored by mainstream media or increasing incidents of female genital abuse. mutilation in Guinea which has not yet made the front page of any major Western newspaper. If you take anything away from this speech tonight, make sure that many of the people who experience the injustices that we are working diligently to eradicate do not recognize them as injustices. They have been deceived into seeing their situation as a natural phenomenon for people around the world. For me, this is the greatest threat to human rights in the 21st century. But I believe we now have something to combat this threat. In the 21st century, we have a tool perhaps more powerful than any tangible tool our ancestors could have crafted to help us educate people about the injustices in which they live.
